Young people East Asia and Pacific have become interested and actively engaged in the world development process, and some are continuously making efforts to have their voices heard when policies are considered that affect them. To support those efforts, the World Bank has initiated a series of knowledge-sharing seminar, building upon the findings of the “World Development Report 2007: Development and the Next Generation.” “Supporting Youth Voices” is an inter-regional seminar that brings together youth leaders, World Bank staff, and policy-makers from the region to discuss development programs initiated by youth. The seminar will also explore the potential for increasing youth participation in the decision-making process at national levels. In addition, it will seek to increase or stimulate dialogue among the participants on issues important to young people, such as exercising citizenship and employment. The first seminar took place by videoconference on April 19. Chalongkwan Tavarayuth, 21, represents Thailand during this seminar. Ahead of the second seminar on June 29, the World Bank would like to invite Thai youth and policy-makers to start a dialogue in an E-discussion forum. Participants are invited to exchange views on youth employment in Thailand – the issue voted most important by World Bank website visitors in May. This E-discussion is available now until June 30.
