Improving the Investment Climate for Growth and Poverty Reduction

The World Bank's annual series of World Development Reports aim to take stock of the current state of global knowledge on key development issues. The World Bank's strategy for long-term growth and poverty reduction has two pillars: improving the investment climate; and empowering and investing in people. The 2005 World Development Report (WDR) will focus on the first of these pillars.

WDR 2005 will be published in late September 2004. Since the report preparation process began, the WDR team has consulted with stakeholders, practitioners and experts on several occasions. This has included face-to-face and video conferenced workshops and meetings, and solicitation of comments on a draft outline placed on the web for comments in November 2003. As the next step in this process, the WDR team is now inviting online comments on a draft report. The goal of the electronic consultation is to enrich the content of the final report by drawing on comments and suggestions from interested groups and individuals.
