Stemming from a two-month discussion on e-communities in the MENA region, this group aims at laying grounds for a Community of Practice (CoP) on the topic of Community Empowerment and Development.
The ultimate goal of this CoP is to promote and advocate local approaches to development within relevant circles and initiate reforms in development planning. Its objectives are to: initiate discussions on the topic; share experiences and give voice to the local communities by creating a virtual think thank and exchanging lessons learnt over the years. Through this approach local solutions and a new momentum for the implementation of the MDGs in the MENA region might be triggered.
This CoP, launched on July 20, is open to all stakeholders in development from all sectors and countries. Though focused on the MENA, the voices from outside the region are welcome as there is much to learn from other regions of the world, which have already taken firm steps towards decentralized development planning.
