Welcome to the discussion forum Education for Youth and Development .
Education for Employment of Youth Forum has been launched by LearningChannel.org of OneWorld South Asia.
Our young citizens are not only the future of our societies, but they also are our present. Their ideals, their imaginations and their energies are often the guiding force of the societies. Much of the development is depending upon the contributions of the young men and women. Their contribution is widely recognized and acknowledged, but their potential contributions to the development of societies are still unearthed for the multitude of problems the young citizens are facing. They include: inequities in social, economic and political conditions; gender discrimination; insecure livelihoods; high levels of youth unemployment; armed conflict and confrontation; ethnic prejudice; social exclusion; homelessness; continuing deterioration of the global environment; increasing incidence of disease, hunger and malnutrition; changes in the role of the family; and inadequate opportunity for education and training.
Young people however themselves are a major contributor in fighting against these problems and bring development and peace in societies. Given the righteous opportunities, young people can bring in major positive changes for lives.
Youth and Development Forum is a platform for advocacy and empowerment through dialogue and knowledge sharing for effective facilitation of development of young people and their involvement in this process. The Forum provides unique opportunities to young people especially from the developing and under-developed countries to speak out on the development agenda. The Forum facilitates dialogue among socially, economically, culturally and politically diversified societies – thus promoting international understanding and possibilities of international collaborations, research, and exchanges.
Forum’s membership comprises young men and women; national youth ministries; international youth organizations; youth focal points of intergovernmental organizations; national, regional and grassroots level youth NGOs; government, intergovernmental and UN institutions; academic and research institutions; public and private agencies; and individuals. One of the Forum’s main objectives is to create a win-win situation facilitating a multi stakeholder partnership effective in institutionalizing successful youth development practices.
The Forum discusses both general and specific thematic issues. The discussion agenda may be proposed by the Forum’s Moderator or by the forum participants. General announcements, news, opportunities relevant to the Forum’s objectives are welcome.
The Forum is moderated by Atanu Garai, OneWorld South Asia.
